New mascot is a hit with kids

Regulars at the John Nike Leisuresport centres have noticed a new kid on the block - Polo, the polar bear.

Since his launch at the end of last year, the new company mascot has made appearances at all of the centres, the Daily Mail Ski and Snowboard Show and even had a cameo role in the Christmas pantomime at Bracknell. Andy Rushton, Manager, John Nike Leisuresport, Chatham, said: "Wherever he has gone, there has been an incredible response to him - especially from the kids, who love him."

The bear was named after suggestions were sought from visitors to the company’s website, www.jnll.co.uk

Toyota’s powerful new contenders for 2003

The new year saw Toyota launch the most powerful four wheel-drive ever in its class, the new Land Cruiser, followed in March with a revamp of a favourite model, the Avensis - both on sale at Octagon Toyota’s Bracknell, Reading and Slough showrooms. The 4.0 litre V6 petrol version of the new Land Cruiser has a top speed of 112 mph and goes on sale from March to join the 3.0 litre D-4D turbo diesel which hit the market in January. The new Land Cruiser is expected to double the 1,300-a-year UK sales of the Colorado, which it has replaced.

All versions of the European-designed Land Cruiser are available in either three or five-door body styles, offering top on-road driving quality and comfort as well as the traditional Land Cruiser full off-road capability. The Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) reduces slippage on steep ascents and is a worldwide innovation, available on all top-of-the-range, five-door models.

The ground-breaking upgraded Toyota Avensis is Europe’s first car to benefit from Toyota’s emissions- controlling Diesel Clean Advanced Technologies (D-CAT). It is also the first to be equipped as standard with a driver knee airbag, to give driver and passengers the protection of nine airbags in total in each model. The Avensis, which was originally launched in 1997 and has notched up 111,000 UK sales to date, goes on sale in March in saloon, liftback and estate versions.

Designed in - and for - Europe, the new Avensis is initially available with a choice of two petrol engines, the 1.8 litre VVT-I (Variable Valve Timing - Intelligent) and a 2.0 litre direct injection VVT-I unit. A 2.0 litre D-4D diesel engine version will arrive in May.

To test drive a Toyota Land Cruiser or Avensis call Octagon Toyota Bracknell on 01344 789888, Octagon Toyota Reading on 0118 975 1300 or the brand new Octagon Toyota Slough on 01753 511900.
