Young achievers are recognised by Chamber

Two trainees at Arena Leisuresport Promotions (ALP) joined five other hopefuls in the final round of the Thames Valley Chamber of
Commerce Trainee of the Year awards earlier this year.
Rachel Hillsdon (18) and Lindsay Nash (18) both work as Assistant Administrators at ALP and they were nominated for the awards by Jane McDougall, Lindsay's Supervisor.
The Thames Valley Chamber Training awards recognise the personal development, work skills and achievements of young people in the
Bracknell area.
Jane said: "Rachel and Lindsay are both working towards NVQs in Administration. They are hard working and an integral part of the team.I'm very pleased that their achievements were recognised by an outside organisation."
Both girls attended a special lunch to receive their runner-up prizes of a certificate and £50 cash from former Kent and England cricket
Captain, Chris Cowdry.

Kids have fun on slippery slope

Members of the community have the opportunity to find out more about what's on offer from the Nike Group in Bracknell at four shows this summer.
The first of these was the annual Wokingham and May Fayre on 6 May John Nike Leisuresport sponsored an open-air stage on which local entertainers performed and provided the portable ski slope so that youngsters could have a go at skiing. Octagon Toyota was a sponsor of the event and displayed several of its latest vehicles.
Patrick Renn, Complex Manager at John Nike Leisuresport, Bracknell, said: "The event was very well attended and, once again, the portable ski slope was very popular, raising £390 for charity".
Bracknell ski centre's mobile ski slope and inflatable snowman was at the Wokingham Carnival on 23 June to promote its facilities and give kids the chance to try skiing and snow bobbing.
The ski slope will be also be at the Newbury Show on 21 and 22 September - the third year in a row that John Nike Leisuresport has been represented.
The most talked about event that involved the Nike Group was Berkshire's Golden Youth - a day long celebration on 10 May.Turn to page one for a full report.

The Bracknell Bees ice hockey team and Thames Valley Tigers basketball squad are gearing up for the next season and aiming to be back on their usual top form.
As Connections went to press, new talent was being scouted by head coaches Enio Sacilotto (Bees) and Paul James (Tigers) and they were both hopeful for a more successful 2002/03 season.
Bees and Tigers' games begin in August and take place at John Nike Leisuresport, Bracknell, and Bracknell Leisure Centre respectively. If you want to come along and catch the teams in action, call 01344 789000 (Bees) and 01344 789008 (Tigers) for further information and tickets.

The Nike Group in brief

Customers at John Nike Leisuresport, Llandudno, will be able to get to the top of the ski slope quicker thanks to a new ski lift, to be installed later in the year. The Poma F10 Compact Ski School Lift has the capacity to transport 600 skiers per hour.

On 27 July John Nike Leisuresport, Bracknell, is hosting the Big Air Snowboard Competition. This all-day event, starting at 12pm, is a chance for snowboarders to exhibit their talents to sounds provided by some of London's top DJs.There will be a barbecue and bar throughout the duration of the event and a live band will provide the entertainment in the evening. The second annual Open -' Day is to be held at John Nike Leisuresport, Bracknell, on 14 September.The complex will be open to the public and, for just £I,they can make use of all the facilities throughout the day, making it the perfect opportunity to try out skiing, snowboarding, or skating with family and friends. The Bracknell Bees ice hockey team is due to make a guest appearance - look out for more details in the local press.
